Module 1

My instructional course aims to increase reading engagement by learning skills through reading and writing personal narratives and implementing blended learning with station rotation.

Designing my instructional course was exciting because this was my first time doing something like this. I used the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards adopted by the State Board of Education in Texas and Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) for 4th-grade reading, the Science of Reading, to build my course. I also used Fink’s 3-Column table to align student engagement to targeted skills, learning goals, activities, and assessments to the TEKS and CKLA curricula.

The lessons are student-centered and provide opportunities for a significant learning environment by giving the students choice, ownership, voice, and authentic learning experiences. Even though I followed the curriculum and aligned it to the TEKS, I had the choice of how to deliver the lessons and activities for the learners.

By the end of this course, students will be able to connect previously learned knowledge with new knowledge to make inferences about the world around them. I made a video outlining the course and the six-week overview lesson plan.
