My 21st Century classroom

I am currently a 4th-grade teacher in Aldine ISD, our district has many technological resources for teachers and students. Like we are a 1:1 student-to-computer district, all classrooms in the district have Promethean interactive boards and an abundance of technological applications for students and teachers to use. Through my journey in the Applied Digital Learning program at Lamar University, I have learned how to help my students and motivate teachers to help their students. I have learned how to implement the CSLE+COVA approach, where teachers CREATE a SIGNIFICANT LEARNING ENVIRONMENT for students. The COVA approach provides students with CHOICE, the freedom to choose their learning with teacher guidance. OWNERSHIP,  giving students control and ownership of how they want to learn. VOICE, students get to share their ideas and knowledge with peers. AUTHENTIC learning- allows students to experience real, genuine experiences, which they can connect to real-world situations. I learned that I can implement CSLE+COVA through Blended Learning and create a Growth Mindset within my classroom. With this implementation, I hope to create a 21st-century classroom for my students.

Seth Godin’s Ted Talk STOP STEALING DREAMS gives an eye-opener to what is happening in many schools across America. Schools are being run like a factory line. Students are to be obedient and productive based on teachers’ evaluations. Learners should be in an environment where students can be evaluated by experience, cooperation, and innovation. If students keep being taught like this, they are not being prepared for a world of cooperation and innovation. We can do this by implementing CLSE+COVA in our classrooms.
