I became a teacher because I struggled to learn English. The teachers in my school were not culturally aware, did not speak Spanish, and did not look like me. When I got to high school, I was part of an organization that pushed students to attend college. Seeing how the program directors encouraged and convinced families that higher education was needed, motivated me to help others achieve their goals. I knew that by being a teacher, I could impact many families.
