“Education is what people do to you; learning is what you do to yourself,” says Joi Ito in the Now-ist video. He goes on to give analogies to this quote. One is that one can get an encyclopedia, write notes, and do research, but the real learning will take place in a real-life situation. When one is in an authentic learning opportunity, they won’t take out their notes to refer to them. Learning is taking place in the current situation that you are in. Joi calls this “the power of pull,” resources get pulled based on the challenges. The world is changing rapidly, and one should pull resources depending on the situation. Being prepared, planning, and stocked with resources are for the futurist; we should be like the nowist; what is happening now? How can e make it better today? I watched this video 3 days ago and asked myself, why am I not a nowist. I am a futurist, not a nowist. That is how I have been told to train my brain.

Hello I am Leticia Cortez, I graduated from the University of Houston-Downtown in Urban Education EC- 6 grade with a bilingual certification. I am currently a bilingual teacher in 4th grade at Aldine ISD in Houston, Texas. Things have definitely changed since I was a student 20 years ago. The way I learned is not the same way students are currently learning and in order to change that I have decided to pursue a degree in Applied Digital Learning at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.
